The blog of J. Ian Ridpath - Canadian oil painter. I hope that you will find this blog interesting, especially if you are involved with or would like to be involved in the fine arts - particularly in the Ottawa, Ontario Region.
Just finished a new 24" x 36" pianting this weeked. I started this one last year but wasn't happy where it was going so I left it. Just got back to 2 weeks ago and completed it yesterday at the Gallery Upstairs at Harrop Restaurant.
Here it is:
"Pine at the Point" (c) 2011 Ian Ridpath. 24"W x 36"H oil on 2" gallery canvas
Wow - it has been a while since I bloggeed! I have done some new paintings and am showing them at the Gallery Upstairs at Harrop Restuarant on Steeles Avenue in Milton. I am also painting there on most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from around 10am to 2pm.
Here is my latest completed work callled "Spring Breakup". It is large 30" x 40" oil on 2" gallery canvas. I like this rendition because of its starkness of line and form. The vertical birch trees are in stark contrast to the horizontal rocks with the ice stripes in the grooves of the rocks. The ice breaking up on the lake occupies the central portion of the painting. The far shore and the sky fade off to the distance for depth.

Here is a picture of two others works showing at the Gallery.
The two paintings (bottom centre-right) are "Crawford Lake" and "Millpond Winter Trail" both are 24" x 36" oil on 2" gallery canvas.
Please do drop by and see these works along with the hundreds of other artworks that Hedi Nowak is showing.
